Automatic Meter Reading (AMR)
The 'MainsTalk' Automatic Meter Reading system (AMR) uses Power Line Carrier (PLC) technology to enable secure 'bi-directional' remote metering over the existing electricity cable network.

The Meter
The 'MainsTalk' meter transmits and receives valuable data along the existing mains cable network; installation is therefore identical to that of conventional meters and so there is no need to install additional wiring. The 'MainsTalk' meter has an integral 100Amp contactor to enable remote disconnection / reconnection of the power supply. The meter can also be remotely switched to operate as a standard kWh Credit Meter or in pre-payment mode; effectively two meters in one.

The Local Controller
This is the data collection unit installed on site and connected to all phases of the low voltage network. The Local Controller automatically collects and stores important meter data such as kWh readings, half-hourly profiles as well as a record of payments for pre-payment customers. This valuable information is then automatically downloaded to the customer's PC overnight via the telecoms or Ethernet network making it available for instant analysis the following morning. The system can be scaled according to the customer's requirements using multiple Local Controllers at different sites.

The Regional Controller
This is the system software installed on an IBM compatible PC using the Windows operating system. The Regional Controller acts as the system control centre and allows users to take full advantage of many powerful operations remotely including meter configuration, disconnection / reconnection, credit transfers (for prepayment customers) and direct meter enquiries etc. The software also incorporates many useful reports for financial analysis and audit purposes and an Export Data facility is also included for linking directly to customer specific accounts packages.
